Day By Day
Friday, Nov 14 – Arrival & Welcome Dinner
Arrive in Oaxaca (OAX airport) by mid-afternoon
On our first evening together, we’ll gather for a group dinner in Oaxaca’s historic Centro at a stunning local restaurant. This is where everyone will meet, connect, and raise a glass to the start of an epic adventure ahead.
The menu is packed with authentic Oaxacan flavors—I highly recommend trying the Mole Trio con Pollo, a local specialty featuring green, red, and black mole served over a perfectly cooked chicken breast. It’s the perfect way to kick off our time together in Oaxaca.
7:00 AM: Bus ride (30 min) to the community
Saturday, Nov 15 – Build Day 1
In the morning, we’ll take a short 30-minute bus ride just outside Oaxaca City to the community where families will soon receive their new homes. Our non-profit partner, TECHO, will be waiting with their team and 40 Mexican university student volunteers, ready to build alongside us. All of the materials—walls, roof, pilings, and more—will be onsite and prepared for construction.
When we arrive, you’ll meet the volunteers and the family you’ll be building for. Together with five TECHO volunteers and a few members of our group, you’ll head to your build site and get to work. We’ll spend the day building, working hard, and sharing laughs until sunset. Then we’ll return to the hotel for a well-earned dinner and some time to relax.
Saturday, November 16 – Build & Key Ceremony
7:00 AM: Bus ride (30 min) to the community
At 7:00 AM, we’ll head back to the build site for another full day of construction. By sunset, your team will likely complete the home—just in time for the key ceremony. This powerful moment is when you’ll hand the keys to the head of the family (often the mother) and watch them step into their new home for the very first time. It’s a memory that stays with you forever—one of the most moving experiences you can imagine.
Afterward, we’ll return to the hotel to celebrate with a well-earned mezcal margarita, share stories, and toast to a job well done before resting up for the next day.

Yes we recommend travel insurance. Travel insurance provides essential protection for unexpected events during your trip. It can cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, delays, lost or stolen luggage, and other unforeseen situations. For international travel, it’s especially valuable to cover costly medical care abroad or emergencies like evacuation. Travel insurance offers peace of mind, ensuring that you’re financially protected and supported if something goes wrong while exploring new destinations.

-
If everyone on site is committed to the project and gives their best effort the home should be finished within the two days. For reference on our previous build in November of 2024 the Leadr team was able to complete their home build by lunch time on the second day. From there we were able to help other sites that were not moving as quickly as us.
-
In the event we do not finish in time, Techo will bring a group of volunteers back the following weekend to ensure it gets completed. Techo provides a PDF highlighting the builds upon its completion so we can guarantee that all projects started will be finished.
